Costa Rica Multi-Sport

  • Overview
    Starts at

    $3590

    Duration.

    8 days

    Activity Level

    Active

Active trips revolve around multi-sport activities that keep your family outside and having fun! Your family will spend more time interacting with the elements and exploring than sitting on a beach or inside of a museum. These activities are not always physically demanding but they can be and do require a basic level of fitness.
    Meals

    7 breakfasts, 6 lunches, 6 dinners

If your family seeks action and thrills on a family vacation, you’ll love this adventurous journey through Costa Rica. Discover stunning wildlife, lush lowland rainforests and pristine beaches while canoeing, zip-lining, hiking, and rafting. Every day is WOW!

    Explore Tortuguero National Park

Traverse canals by canoe and jungle boat through wildlife rich mangrove forests in one of the most biologically diverse places in the country. It’s an endless stream of wildlife — monkeys, crocs, sloths and more!

    Sarapiqui Whitewater Rafting

Have a blast on a super fun Class II/III rafting trip down a river of alternating crystalline pools and churning rapids. Then cross that same river – twice – on an exhilarating zip line.

    Corso Lecheria

Step into the life of a working Costa Rican farm; you’ll learn to milk a cow, harvest strawberries and chat with chickens. Learn how they make delicious cheeses and ice cream – and maybe try some too!

    Puntarenas

Enjoy the beaches of the Pacific coast with a stay at the all-inclusive resort the Ticos themselves favor most. There is tons to do – or time to do nothing, it’s your choice!

  • Itinerary

    Day 1

    San Jose

    Days 2-3

    Tortuguero

    Casa Cecropia Chocolate Tour

Visit Casa Cecropia (by canoe of course!) for a hands-on explanation about the importance of chocolate. Hint: Chocolate was so important in pre-Columbian times, it was used as currency! Sample your own home-made chocolate and even get a (temporary) tattoo, made with vegetable ink in the ancient tradition of the indigenous people in the area.

    Cerro de Tortuguero Hike

Take a boat over to this inactive volcano for an afternoon hike. Make sure to pack some good walking shoes and bring a bottle of water for this beautiful, moderate hike. Keep your eyes pealed for some interesting critters along the way!

    Jungle Boat Expedition

Venture into Tortuguero National Park for a jungle boat expedition along the winding river system. Eleven different habitats are found here including three toed sloths, three kinds of monkeys and 320 species of birds.

    Optional Sea Turtle Conservancy Visit

Visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy’s green turtle exhibit, where kids will love the opportunity to adopt an endangered Green Sea Turtle.

    Days 4-5

    Arenal

    Whitewater Rafting

Today you’ll enjoy the fun and thrill of an easy Class II/III whitewater rafting adventure through lowland rainforest where exotic birds like the keel billed toucan and the endangered great green macaw can be spotted. With calm, crystalline pools following each run of rapids, you’ll travel 7.5 miles from La Virgen de Sarapiqui to Chilamate, with a stop for swimming and snacking along the way. Minimum age is 6 years old. Closed-toe shoes required; no flip flops!

    Maleku Village Experience

A visit of the Maleku village is an opportunity to share and learn more about the Costa Rican legacy. The Maleku indigenous community is one of the 24 different indigenous territories in Costa Rica. At the village you will learn about natural medicinal plants, take an archery lesson, and learn about the traditional arts.

    Friends Across Borders Meet-Up

Thomson families love this program! Enjoy a gathering in the community with the local children. We’ll celebrate with a soccer ball and some local games! (Only Available on Select Dates)
