Enjoy the fresh, crisp air of a town that’s been closed to traffic since 1961, replaced by horse-drawn carriages that line the town’s main street, Bahnhofstras-se. Step further back in time, strolling through the narrow alleyways of old Zermatt, “Hinterdorf” (rear village) past barns, stores, stables and old houses built between the 16th and 18th Centuries.

Days 3-4: Ride the Gornergrat Bahn / Visit Glacial Ice Palace / Hike from Furi to Zermatt

Enjoy an “elevated” experience, riding Gornergrat Bahn, Europe’s highest-altitude rack railway without a tunnel, which ends with breathtaking views.

As you ride on Gornergrat Bahn you’ll enjoy breathtaking views from the summit that includes 29 mountains over 4,000 meters, including the Matterhorn (elev. 14,692 feet). Then ride Europe’s highest aerial cableway to a glacial palace, made of ice, carved 50 feet below the mountain’s surface. Wrap up the afternoon with a leisurely hike from the charming mountain town of Furi back down to Zermatt, offering sweeping views of the Matterhorn and the village below.

Days 5-6: Have a "Swiss Chocolate Experience" / Take a Cooking Class / Ride a Trotti-Bike

Learn what makes the Swiss brand of chocolate so exceptional, take a cooking class with local kids, and ride like the Swiss do: on a trotti-bike.

Enjoy a change of scenery in Interlaken. Watch local chocolatiers make their specialty and learn what makes Swiss chocolate so exceptional (Yes, you’ll taste some too!). For the “Friends Across Borders” event, American kids will meet their Swiss pen pals, then join in a hands-on cooking class to make rosti, traditional Swiss potato pancakes, as well as a chocolate dessert. Finish up the last part of this tour with a gondola ride, heading down the mountain the “Swiss way,” on a seat-free scooter bike called a “trotti-bike.”

Days 7-8: Visit an Open-Air Museum / Stroll through Lucerne / Explore Mount Pilatus Ropes Course

En route to Lucerne, visit an open-air museum featuring historic buildings from throughout Switzerland, stroll the storied village of Lucerne and try a ropes course at the top of Mount Pilatus.
