Dear Thomson Families,

This year I’m trying to be festive from Thanksgiving all the way through to the New Year in hopes that letting it flow will be simpler – and more fun – than compartmentalizing the events. To this end, I am still enjoying leftover turkey (several meals a day…) while contemplating putting up a tree this weekend. A few colorful lights are strung up in my kitchen, and yummy smelling pine cones are in a big bowl. Next I’ll be poking cloves into oranges and watching A Charlie Brown Christmas. So many holidays and so many varied traditions – what is your favorite?

Read on, and happy adventuring!

We Had a Wedding!

Congrats to Nicole and Marc! We’re a bit late in reporting (how busy can we be?!) our own Nicole Wineland-Thomson wed Marc Quiñones in a lovely garden ceremony on September 14. Marc is a renowned salsa drummer who currently works with both the Allman Brothers Band and Gregg Allman & Friends. The wedding was magical and, needless to say, the music was spectacular. With just one day off before and after the wedding, Nicole leapt back into her new position here building a special division of TFA (more on that later). Yes, she has a certain glow… and she does say it was everything she always dreamed of; anyone who was there would have to know that’s true. Check out the glorious photos here. The wedding of a lifetime! Luckily we don’t have to speak the mouthful ‘Nicole Wineland-Thomson-Quiñones’… just Nicole Quiñones.

Spring Fever!

As the days get shorter and darker, how can we help but hope for spring (even though we have yet to see snow in Boston)? Now, you might be tempted to just wait and see…but I’m here to tell you how many families had December hopes dashed by waiting too long. Don’t let this happen to your spring plans! Costa Rica, Peru, Galapagos, Panama, Guatemala – where do your dreams lead you? Secure your next trip of a lifetime, now!

Photos Make a Forever Gift

Traveling is a great way to expand your vision of the world, and almost everyone wants to take home a perfect shot of the wonders they discover. What better way to ensure the vision you hope for than to join Chris Gamel on a Photo Adventure this spring. Chris will travel with us in Costa Rica March 15-23, and March 22-30 as well as Peru April 19-27, 2014. Fancy equipment not required, and all ages welcome. Come see the world through a new lens!

Family Reunions

Thinking about taking this year-end to plan for next? Here are some guidelines to having a seamless, joyful time together.

Brazil Buzz

We’ve had an outpouring of excitement over our new adventure to Brazil, set to go July 18–28, and August 15–25. Don’t miss out! We’ve found some really exciting and unique experiences, and great guides to lead you. South America has a wonderful climate and a comfortable yet different culture to discover. The food is awesome (oh I miss the pao de queijo!) and the music irresistible. Call us now, 800-262-6255

Welcome to Lulu

Even though nothing will replace my sweet Jessie, it was just too lonely without a companion dog. So welcome to Lulu, a 5 year old rescue dog who now has a pretty good new life. She’s a rat terrier, which would be a bonus if there were any rats around. Which there aren’t….Right?

Best Socks in the World

Do you have a burning desire to keep your feet comfortable? I just feel like saying SmartWool makes the most awesome socks in the world. A few years ago I laughed at the ridiculous price – but I bought a pair anyway. I was an immediate convert, and try to add a pair or two to my collection each year. They come in different weights and cushioning, wear like iron, and keep my feet happy all year round. No affiliation! Just had to say it as I prepare for winter.

Our RIDDLE - and another Super-Smart Genius Award

After someone ate an entire pumpkin pie, five dogs were being grilled. We know that each of them told the truth in one of the statements and lied in the other. Can you analyze their statements to discover who committed the dastardly deed?

    - Benson said: It wasn't Conrad; It was Nigel
    - Henry said: It was Conrad; It wasn't Nigel
    - Conrad said: It was Benson; It wasn't Lulu
    - Nigel said: It was Lulu; It wasn't Benson
    - Lulu said: It was Henry! It was Nigel!

We'll be drawing a name from a TFA hat in five days. If we draw YOUR name and you've answered correctly, you'll win a Super-Smart Genius Award worth $200 off your next Thomson Family Adventure. Please solve this with your brain power, though you are allowed to consult your very clever children. Cheating is not allowed (and I'll know if you do!).
