Dear Thomson Families,

It's a Winter Wonderland out there, and in places we never dreamt there could be so much snow.  Here in Boston the city closed up tight for a big scary snow emergency... that never arrived. All in all, February has already been quite an adventure already.

Read on, and happy adventuring!

Meet Kirsten (no, not the American Girl doll)

Welcome to Kirsten Hansen, who joins our sales department as a Family Travel Advisor. Having worked in financial services for quite possibly too long, Kirsten decided the time was right to grow her dream of becoming a travel planner. She's traveled to Italy, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Sweden, and beyond. She's also visited the United Arab Emirates, and South America - where she went glacier hiking in Patagonia, and floated in the salt pools in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile. And, yes it's true, she lived in Dublin for several years and speaks in a slightly lilting brogue - give her a call to have a listen. But do it soon - come March Kirsten is off to Tanzania to learn about sustainable tourism and of course enjoy a Thomson Family Safari.

Baja from the kids' view

One of the things I like best about family travel is seeing the world through my children's eyes rather than my over-exposed ones. So whose better review than the kids'? Ages 7 and 9, these sisters from Conway, Mass both had a blast last winter in Baja. And lucky thing, we still have space on our April 17 Baja Adventure!

"You just have to go to Baja Mexico! The climate is hot and dry, so bring sunblock. The guides are good story tellers, know lots of stuff, are funny, and may even wear an orange wig. Ever cooked a pepper over a flame? If you feel hot just take a dunk with a seal lion pup. Maybe the sound of the grey whale blowing is your style of music. If you're an outside kind of person, you'll love Baja and all the interesting sites you'll see.

On the trip to Baja Mexico you'll have a great time... horseback riding on the beach listening to crashing waves. Playing beach soccer in deep sand with bare feet. Joking with a guide who once was a clown. Whale watching to look right into the animal's eye. And searching in the desert for million year old shark teeth. So go to Baja and have fun. You might even see Baja snow."

Join this trip to the Galapagos and save big time!

You know how we pass the savings back to you when we have a larger group traveling? Nowhere is this more significant than on our Galapagos MultiSport Adventure. Because resources are so limited on these islands, providing services is just plain challenging. This makes the shared expenses on each departure high - but add more people, and the per person cost drops fast. If you haven't made your plans for your April 3 vacation week, consider this: the group already onboard is due a $400 per person refund, but if we get just 5 more people to join that number jumps to $800 per person. You get to save and be a Bargain Hero! Call soon, space is limited.

Still wondering about a March 27 vacation?

One word: Portugal. Dash off to another world, historic, medieval, beautiful. Explore, hike, kayak, eat. See castles, gardens, villages, mountains. Sleep in luxury. Have the trip of a lifetime.

Green Tip - How one piece of paper can save millions

Imagine the trees, energy, and waste saved if everyone in your neighborhood stopped receiving unwanted mail. We love Catalog Choice, a nonprofit web site where you can manage all of your catalog subscriptions. It's so easy to use.

Show your community how simple it is to reduce waste with Catalog Choice. Post this flyer in your local coffee shop, workplace, school, or anywhere there's a community message board. And sign up today for your account.

PS - Thomson Family Adventures has a cool digital brochure too!

Our newsletter: How much is not enough?

It doesn't use paper, but it does fill your in box. We're hearing grumblings from families that our once a month newsletter is not enough to keep you up to date (or is it not enough puzzles to keep you sharp?). We're having an internal debate and we need your help. What do you think - how often do you want to hear from us? Weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or not at all? Please let us know, we do like to listen to you.

Our RIDDLE - and Another Super-Smart Genius Award with New Rules

Let's face it, not everyone can sit at their computer all day and it just isn't fair to award the first right answer. So now I'm going to pick it out of a hat; the drawing is in 5 days! So take this month's puzzler to your dinner conversation, and see if your kids can work it out.

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a person of a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, play a different sport, and keep a certain pet. Using the clues below can you determine who owns the fish?

The Tanzanian lives in a red house.
The Costa Rican keeps dogs as pets.
The Ecuadorian drinks tea.
The green house is on the immediate left of the white house.
The green house owner drinks coffee.
The person who surfs rears birds.
The owner of the yellow house plays tennis.
The man living in the house right in the middle drinks milk.
The Egyptian lives in the first house.
The man who plays hockey lives next door to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps horses lives next door to the man who plays tennis.
The owner who plays soccer drinks soda.
The Peruvian skis.
The Egyptian lives next to the blue house.
The man who plays hockey has a neighbor who drinks water.
Good luck! If we draw YOUR name and you've answered correctly, you'll win a Super-smart Genius Award worth $200 off your next Thomson Family Adventure. Please solve this with your brain power, though you are allowed to consult your very clever children. Cheating is not allowed (and I'll know if you do!).
