Dear Thomson Families,

You may have noticed the December newsletter slipped by without a publish date.  Our apologies (you know how the end of the year goes!). Isn't it wonderful to let go, sit back and enjoy the people and activities that are special to us? Whether you traveled, were stuck in a blizzard, or nestled in at home we hope your holidays 2010 was a delight. Happy New Year to all of our friends and families. Here's to creating memories!

Read on, and happy adventuring!

Who was at your holiday table?

When you think of family, does it mean just the relatives to you? Being in the family travel business we see many definitions, and we love them all. There are family groups of old classmates coming together, of best friends, of aunts and uncles with their nieces and nephews, of photography enthusiasts and artists. They go to Costa Rica, Peru, Tanzania, Panama, Egypt... Sometimes a group has four generations in it, and sometimes it is made of all adults, sometimes it's five people, and sometimes it's thirty. Their trips are always busy with activity but relaxing because we handle the details! When you come together with things in common, you build memories you'll have forever. Sound like fun? Lots of things make up a family; who do you embrace in yours?

New and exclusive! Costa Rica for teens

In 2010 we realized our "off the beaten path" itineraries in Costa Rica had an awful lot of people doing the same thing. So we decided to branch out in new and better ways, beginning with our Costa Rica Teen Adventure. Age twelve and up kids can be a different breed from their younger counterparts, and we're rising to the occasion. Thomson Family Adventures is offering them something really spectacular and exciting, something just for them (and you, the parents) — that wouldn't be so fun for seven year olds. You'll journey to remote Corcovado for pristine snorkeling, hiking, and beaches. Then head to Turrialba for some biking and terrific whitewater rafting. Finish up your adventure on the Caribbean coast for snorkeling, hiking and relaxing in a sleepy beach town. Oh, don't forget the zipline!

Last newsletter we told you about our new Panama adventure - if you've forgotten, you can read about it here.

With history, culture, art, food, landscape, and the Mediterranean, everyday brings a new definition to incredible. And guess what - now Turkish Air is offering nonstops form Dulles to Istanbul five days a week! We have several dates available, including July 23 with kids 10, 11, 12 already signed up. Come along, you won't be disappointed.

Our RIDDLE - and another Super-Smart Genius Award

A family traveling in a camper leaves Washington for the Grand Canyon traveling at the speed of 80 km/hr. Half an hour later a second family in a camper leaves the Grand Canyon for Washington traveling at the speed of 60 km/hr.

Which camper will be further from Washington when they meet?

We'll be drawing a name from a TFA hat in five days. If we draw YOUR name and you've answered correctly, you'll win a Super-Smart Genius Award worth $200 off your next Thomson Family Adventure. Please solve this with your brain power, though you are allowed to consult your very clever children. Cheating is not allowed (and I'll know if you do!).
