Dear Thomson Families,

This is our almost spring-like edition for the families who feel ready to begin dreaming of more pleasant weather ahead.  The storms across the USA haven’t stopped yet, but we hope thoughts of spring and summer breaks will keep you warm while you shovel the last piles of slush from your walkways. Except for those of you who live in warmer climes – you just keep on smiling!

Read on, and happy adventuring!

New Team Member, New Puppy, New Website:

Give us a call and welcome aboard our newest team member, Samantha. Sam works in our Service Department, and brings a vast knowledge of Asia and a quiet sense of order to our bustling office. I think Sam would not mind sharing this limelight with the new office dog Nigel, who is as lovable and content as any puppy we’ve known. Then you can take a peek at our revamped website – let us know what you think.

Try a New Adventure:

Join us throughout 2013 in Guatemala for fun and adventure. Be inspired by Lake Atitlan and amazed at the magical ruins of Tikal. You’ll meet traditional Maya artisans, and climb to the top of a volcano; discover the joys of plantains and how to make chocolate; learn some Spanish and meet the local kids. Guatemala is easy to get to and has eternally spring-like weather, perfect any time of year. For travel opportunities – cultural, educational and adventurous alike – there is nothing like Guatemala.

We Want You Socializing:

Do you like us on Facebook? This is a fun way to get to know us better. You’ll find interesting posts about travel, photos from our adventures, family reviews, and completely irrelevant (but fun) information about our pets and office shenanigans.

What’s Up Around the Office?

Since we’re in discussion on how to increase transparency with our traveling families, I thought we’d begin by increasing transparency around what’s happening in the office. Right now Claudia is in Baja exploring by boat; it's peak whale watching season! Sarah is getting ready to go on her first safari, just in time for the baby wildebeest. After a storm of more than 30 inches of snow, Beth decided she prefers the scoop kind of shovel, and not the back saver kind. Jim is back from a week skiing and just put together a new chair for his office (no more squeaking!); Joe is training for a half marathon in March. Pam is posting our new postcard app onto the website Check out the link at the bottom of the page! Nicole and I are starring in our first movie short that you can find right on the homepage. Sam is about to take over getting you all ready for your Costa Rica and Ecuador adventures. What are you up to?

Luxury Ride in the Galapagos, December 2013 – Final Call!!

If you read these newsletters and e-blasts you know we have an amazing chance for you to join SilverSea's new ‘Silver Galapagos’ ship for a 3 or 4 night cruise in the islands at our standard Galapagos Islands and Inca Ruins price. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to combine our all-time favorite Highlands exploration with a luxury cruise in the Galapagos. SilverSea will reclaim this blocked space mid-March so don’t delay!

17 to Infinity: Adventures for Families with Older Teens and 20-Somethings:

We’ve had a huge response to this promotion. Though we’ve offered ad hoc, age appropriate adventures to this age group for years, we’re excited to be more ‘organized’ about it. Don’t be fooled by the few dates posted online, we are adding to them every day as we hear from you when you want to go, and where. If you like to be the leader, give us a call so we can set one of these adventures around your own perfect schedule – others are waiting to join you!

P.S. We're almost out of space on our April 13 Galapagos Multi-Sport Adventure, so call now and ask about it!

Our RIDDLE - and another Super-Smart Genius Award

I run a specialty capuchin monkey-housing business. If I put in one capuchin monkey per specially designed house, I have one capuchin monkey too many. If I put in two capuchin monkeys per house, I have one house too many. How many houses and capuchin monkeys do I have?

We'll be drawing a name from a TFA hat in five days. If we draw YOUR name and you've answered correctly, you'll win a Super-Smart Genius Award worth $200 off your next Thomson Family Adventure. Please solve this with your brain power, though you are allowed to consult your very clever children. Cheating is not allowed (and I'll know if you do!).

If you haven't taken our travel survey before, click here to take it and save $300 on your next adventure.
