Dear Thomson Families,

April is such a funny month in New England.  It's cold, but there are signs of spring. There's leftover snow, but also some crocuses beginning to pop up. If you had a vacation recently, your flights probably all departed as planned; one of the beauties of this season. In March, I went to Baja, returned home, and then survived chaperoning a class trip of 125 kids (not by myself!) to Washigton, D.C. Ah, college acceptance month! I have heard from families about acceptances to Harvard, DePaul, Smith, NYU, UT and more. Where are your kids headed?

Read on, and happy adventuring!

Moo in Baja

I've been on many, maybe even most, of our Thomson Family Adventures and all of them have been winners. I can say for sure, that Baja took me by surprise because of its unique desert beauty, abundance of enthralling activities, the warm people and skilled guides, and...the fabulous food! From the wild crowds of Cabo San Lucas, we were whisked away to the serene and peaceful village of Todos Santos. From this home base we hiked to incredible views, surfed (though to say I got up on the board would be an exaggeration), rode horses on the beach, kayaked through a crystal clear bay, and swam with playful sea lions. It was an unforgetable adventure. Todos Santos is a few hours by plane from Dallas. An easy place to get to, it is literally a thousand miles away from any trouble in mainland Mexico. Best of all, it is the world's best whale watching in February.

Early Booking for 2012 - Two Great Reasons

Recently we have had a great deal of last minute bookings; some signing up two weeks before departure! Last minute travel makes everyone dizzy and costs you a great deal.

Plan ahead so you can save hundreds on airline tickets!
For example, if you buy a flight right now from Chicago to Costa Rica for February 2012, the flight is about $500. If you wait until November, the same flight will cost you $1,500 or more! Booking early could potentially save you a $1,000 per person on your air!

Plan ahead for 2012 travel so you can take advantage of our discounts!
If you by May 31, 2011
1. for the Baja Adventure, we'll give you $150 off per person
2. for the Ecuador and the Galapagos adventures, in 2012, we'll give you $300 off per person
3. for the Tanzania Family Safari,we'll give you $500 off per person! This is an award winning trip and we're celebrating 30 years in Tanzania this year!

These early booking discounts are available on all our trips. Just ask about any destination you're considering. Please note, these discounts are so spectacular that they cannot be used in addition to other discounts except for large group refunds (where they may apply). Click here for the complete details...

The last minute planning is not a good beginning to a vacation. Planning ahead saves money and provides months of wonderful anticipation.

Are You Ready to Consider Egypt?

The U.S. Department of State has not yet lifted the Travel Warning for Egypt (contrary to prior reports), but we hope this will change soon. If you'd like to make a plan for summer or next winter you can do so safely - you always have the flexibility to cancel your adventure to Egypt, with no penalty, up to 30 days prior to travel.

Exotic, Delicious, Unique, Memorable... Summer

The trip of a lifetime. Where would you go? Many families have decided to stimulate their curiosity and widen their cultural understanding. Can you join them in China, to walk the Great Wall, embrace a panda, practice Thai Chi, watch cormorants dive for fish, and measure up to a Terra Cotta Warrior? Can you join them in Turkey to hike across a lunar landscape, through fragrant groves of thyme, discover hidden Roman ruins, overnight with a local family, and sail the Mediterranean? How about Morocco? Hike the High Atlas Mountains, bustle through medinas and markets, ride a camel on the beach, and share fresh bread and honey with a family. You can almost taste the Peking duck, shish kebob, or tagine with couscous now, can't you? Come join these families and take advantage of some of the large group discounts (where they apply). Call now!

From the Mouths of Babes

Stephen from California, age 12, writes: "Over winter break, my mother, my father, and my sister and I went to Costa Rica. It was one of the best vacations I have ever been on. I had an interesting time and learned a lot from our tour guide, Jorge who was always smiling and welcoming..." Want to learn what makes a 12 year old get excited? Read more here...

Braggin' Rights -- Your Great Stories

We've highlighted children and teens doing great things over the months. Do you have a story to tell about something your teen or child has done? Yes, it is OK for parents and grandparents to brag about those dear to them! If you don't, who will?!

Our RIDDLE - and another Super-Smart Genius Award

Beth went out to dinner with her friends Michael, Eliza, and Meghan. Beth sat across from Meghan. At Meghan's right, opposite Eliza, sat Michael. When the waiter came for their orders, Michael and Eliza ordered lobster. Meghan chose steak, and Beth (who likes to be difficult) ordered like this: "Unless the person at the left of the person opposite the person who ordered steak is not having what the person across from the person at the right of the person at my left is having, then I'll have what the person across from the person at the right of the person opposite me ordered. Otherwise, bring me the lasagna." Assuming "right" and "left" is from the viewpoint of the diners, what did Beth order?

We'll be drawing a name from a TFA hat in five days. If we draw YOUR name and you've answered correctly, you'll win a Super-Smart Genius Award worth $200 off your next Thomson Family Adventure. Please solve this with your brain power, though you are allowed to consult your very clever children. Cheating is not allowed (and I'll know if you do!).
