Dear Thomson Families,

Spring is coming soon to Boston, a fresh new season.  Every year we feel the blossoming of new possibilities and opportunities. Though we are surrounded by changes in our landscapes, sometimes we just need to leave our nest (and related work, laundry, phone, mail obligations...) and go some place new. What a great time to plan for your next adventure!

Read on, and happy adventuring!

What's Hot in April?

I bet there are some of you with an April break and nothing yet on your agenda. How about kayaking in Costa Rica, or surfing in Baja, or snorkeling in Belize? You might want to travel with similarly-aged families, or maybe you prefer to use your vacation to reconnect with just your own busy family. We'll match you with other travelers, or set you up with a personal, stress free adventure to re-bond your own group. Give us a call and we'll whip it all together.

Summer in the Galapagos:
$1,000 off our Multi-Sport Adventure!

Well, our summer is their winter, but never mind—the weather is great all year round. This June and July you'll enjoy an unheard of $1,000 per person discount to discover the most fabulous Multi-Sport Adventure of a lifetime, with the best that Ecuador has to offer. Ride gentle horses through the hills of the highlands, and wander villages and markets full of local color and crafts. You won't believe the cheese that's made there! Then we'll whisk you away to the islands off the coast for up-close discovery of sea lions, blue footed boobies, frigate birds, tortoises, sharks, penguins and more. This is the most special and unique way to see the Galapagos: You'll sleep on land for four nights—two of them camping—and spend your days hiking, biking, and cruising in small boats out to some of the best snorkeling sites the Galapagos has to offer. From the best guides in the world, to the luxury of your gracious accommodations in a working hacienda, to the sand in your tent on a remote beach with the Southern Sky above, this adventure is one of our most precious. Three dates available: June 23; July 7; July 21. These groups are small, so call us now! 800-262-6255

From Seniors to Small Fries

When everyone from age 85 to 5 wants to gallivant around the world, it's important that the entertainment matches the interests and abilities of the entire clan. Any of our Cultures and Civilizations adventures can fit that bill. Grandparents love to share the myths and ancient history with the younger ones, and learning about these different cultures is enchanting to all ages—if you have an accomplished Thomson Family Adventures guide to lead the way! This summer visit the temples and see the art of Thailand June 10, July 8, or July 22; visit Roman ruins and underground villages on a Smithsonian Turkey trip July 15 or July 22; or discover Machu Picchu in Peru Aug 3 with a Smithsonian twist, or August 11 for a shorter jaunt. Or ask about creating a custom date just for your special rendezvous.

Creativity: Not Just for Kids

While we're out there learning about new places with our friends and family, why not learn a new way to SEE those new places? Just because we're supposed to be "grown up" doesn't mean we can't learn a new trick or two. You might think our Art Adventures are just for the kids, but think again! We want parents and grandparents to look through the lens of the camera with a different eye, or pick up a brush and add some color to a new interpretation of vacation. New vistas, new cultures, new visions, new memories—come do it with those you love. Available this summer: Art in Costa Rica, and Photography in either Turkey or Tanzania.

Filler' Up:

There is nothing we love to do more than fill up an adventure with families of similarly-aged kids. One of my favorites was last summer's group to China, all 11- and 12-year-old boys who had never met before. Though some things are already sold out for summer 2012, we do have new dates filling with anything from the sixes and tens, to the late teens and twenties. Smithsonian Adventures, Turkey, Tanzania, Peru, the Galapagos, China... What is on your list? Give us a call and see what fits for you.

Our RIDDLE - and another Super-Smart Genius Award

At our last Family Travel Conference we invited several guides to come share their experiences and vast knowledge with us. Four of them brought snacks, and at a break they shared them. Can you figure out who ate what and where?

  1. Juan, who doesn't like pineapple, liked sitting by the river.
  2. The guide who sat on the patio ate the rice and beans.
  3. The guide who drank the coffee did not sit in the conference room.
  4. Flaminia sat at the computer but she did not drink the coffee.
  5. Loana did not sit in the conference room.
  6. Khaled doesn't like mango.

We'll be drawing a name from a TFA hat in five days. If we draw YOUR name and you've answered correctly, you'll win a Super-Smart Genius Award worth $200 off your next Thomson Family Adventure. Please solve this with your brain power, though you are allowed to consult your very clever children. Cheating is not allowed (and I'll know if you do!).
