Dear Thomson Families,

There are leaves crackling on my front walk, and an autumn smell is in the air.  It always happens overnight. And, like clockwork, families begin to wake up to the calendar—school vacations are almost here! We have lots of options for you, for winter, spring, and summer. And lots of stories to share about our own summer adventures. Call us to share yours, and to find out how we can fulfill your wildest dreams for the future.

Read on, and happy adventuring!

Where Was Beth?

Beth is fresh off our China adventure, her first visit to this exotic and wonderful land. She hiked on the Great Wall, fell in love with the pandas, was wowed by the terra cotta warriors, and survived six days without her luggage. She brought home great stories and ideas, and a vivid reminder to always pack a change of clothes in your carry on! Even though it can be hot and muggy, China remains a popular summer destination for adventurous families. Believe us when we say, you've never had an experience like this before!

Who's New?

Nicole! We welcome our newest member to the Thomson Family Adventures party, Nicole Wineland-Thomson. If her name is kind of familiar, uh well, yes, we admit she is related... But trust me, hired on merit alone. Nicole brings an infectious enthusiasm and innate knowledge honed from years of being the primary research subject in this "project" begun by her parents. Give her a call and ask her what she knows about family adventure travel!

Ultimate Adventure

Some things just take time to plan ahead, like a climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro. Ever thought about it? Every year we have clients who take this on as a challenge to meet together, as a family, and their sense of accomplishment and exhilaration is astounding. This summer we were so proud of Gary Hirshfield and his son Jared, who summited together in July. Of our unique and leisurely route known as The Grand Traverse Gary says, "Taking the extra days to acclimate made us feel SO well prepared that summiting was actually enjoyable... When I saw climbers from other companies really struggling, I realized just how hard it could be and how significant the difference was with Thomson. They did a great job!" Let us know if you want to chat with Gary, and we'll put you in touch. Time now to plan for summer 2012!

Vimeo Shimeo

OK maybe I was behind in my technology, but just a month ago I knew nothing about Vimeo. Now I'm in love! Like a YouTube without ads, we've created a portfolio of some fabulous videos and slide shows that will show you volumes about what it is like on a Thomson Family Adventure. Send us your video clips and photos and you can be featured too! If you have your own Vimeo site, please share it with us.

Photo Contest Update

Speaking of video and photos, we are on to our next photo contest. This includes all kinds of media, so be it poetry or visual art, we want it. Send it along, and you'll automatically be entered. We're finalizing our new brochure right now, so this is your chance to be published, too! The deadline for entering is October 30, and you can submit photos, video, art, writing, and media from any Thomson Family Adventure!

Pyramids, temples, camels, and desert. Mummies! How does this make you feel? Some families are squirming to go, some are feeling it's just not time yet. We're with you either way, ready to send you off on a super adventure, or ready to keep you in the loop for the future. We know Egypt is coming back as one of our most popular destinations, the only question is: when do you want to go?

December and Beyond

Yup, families are still booking for December, and we still have room for you! Join 7 and 10 year olds on our December 23 Costa Rica Multi-Sport Adventure, or travel with teens ages 16 and 19 on our December 23 trip to Peru. Looking for other trips with older teens? Our December 24 Galapagos for Teens trip has a 14 and a 17 year old traveling, and our December 19 departure to Thailand has young adults ages 16 and 20 already on board. Or stay home in December and take your teens to Costa Rica on February 18—there is already a 15 year old on board! Flights are more scarce and higher priced by the day-grab them now!

Have You Been on Our Facebook Page?

It really is a fun place to see the happenings from us and our traveling families. Traveled with us recently? It's also a great place to tell others what you thought of your adventure, and to upload your photos too. Come join us there.

Family Adventure Webinars

New to Thomson Family Adventures, soon we'll be hosting webinars on our recent adventures. Let us know if you want to be on the list!

Hercules Rejoined

Glenda and Bob from the Boston area joined our adventure in Turkey this summer (and loved it, by the way). On their free day in Antalya they visited the wonderful Antalya Archeological Museum, where they they learned all about the statue of Hercules. The bottom half is in Antalya, and the top half (controversially) resides in... Boston, at the Museum of Fine Arts. The Antalya exhibit displays many articles on the subject. On their return to Boston, they found this 20 year dispute had been resolved and Hercules' top half has recently been returned to its rightful place. Having missed their brief window to see him in Boston, now they have to go back to see the whole thing!

Our RIDDLE - and another Super-Smart Genius Award

At the recent TFA race, four runners entered the challenging 5K. Pam came first. The entrant wearing number 2 wore red, whereas Nicole didn't wear yellow. The loser wore blue and Sarah wore number 1. Joe beat Sarah and the person who came second wore number 3. The entrant in yellow beat the entrant in green. Only one of the entrants wore the same number as their final position. Can you determine who finished where, the number and color they wore?

We'll be drawing a name from a TFA hat in five days. If we draw YOUR name and you've answered correctly, you'll win a Super-Smart Genius Award worth $200 off your next Thomson Family Adventure. Please solve this with your brain power, though you are allowed to consult your very clever children. Cheating is not allowed (and I'll know if you do!).
