Dear Thomson Families,

SUMMERTIME:  It is really here. Happy Independence Day to the USA and Happy Canada Day to our neighbors to the north. There is high heat in Boston as well as much of the country. As kids get out of school, families are heading off to lake homes and beaches as well as more exotic destinations. A guided, new world adventure is an exciting cap off to the school year and a time to come together and regroup in new ways. Can you leave your smart phone and laptop at home? We challenge you to disconnect and discover the novel beauties of your surroundings.

Read on, and happy adventuring!

Nicole’s Big Adventure

Nicole is just back from two weeks of 'work' in Ecuador and the Galapagos. That means in between the horseback riding, hiking, markets, kayaking and snorkeling she had to make time to take copious notes to share with us back home. Poor Nicole! Check out our Facebook page for her pics and blurbs or give her a call for a first hand report because you’ll want to hear all about our…

…Galapagos MultiSport Adventure:

We have the nicest family (with older kids) all excited about our Galapagos MultiSport Adventure for December 25 – January 2. Imagine beautiful landscape, rose gardens and haciendas….horseback riding through the mountains….sandy beaches and magnificent frigate birds diving for fish…swimming with sea lion pups, giant sea turtles, and rays…. Grab your teens and graduates, your snorkel mask and GoPro , and get ready for the time of your life.

A Marathon on the Great Wall

This blog has absolutely nothing to do with Thomson Family Adventures except that it was written by the grandson of a friend of a client’s, and I found it via our Facebook connection. And it is about being in China, which is a great destination of ours. I thought you might enjoy it and maybe even dream about running your *own* marathon on the Great Wall of China. http://brendonhahns.wordpress.com/2012/06/17/race-report-the-great-wall-marathon-stairway-to-pain

Adventure on a Social Mission

While you’re having fun on your family adventure, there are many great things going on behind the scenes that we all can feel good about. At each destination, Thomson Family Adventures supports local schools and community groups and ensure that our native guides and drivers are paid wages worthy of the hard work they do. In Belize our visit to the San Antonio Women’s Group helps support their creative endeavors in pottery, embroidery, and handicrafts. This support in turn enables them to work on sustainable community projects. They now have a biodigester which is a simple system that turns organic waste (in this case, pig manure) into a nutrient-rich fertilizer and methane, which can be used to run a stove for over 6 hours!. Come meet these industrious women and explore their beloved agricultural village in the highlands of Belize. Space still available August 4 – 12, as well as Thanksgiving and the December holidays.

You might think it is hot out, but it’s really Thanksgiving that’s hot – for family travel that is. With fewer weather challenges for the airlines and more and more school calendars allowing for a break long enough to escape, this is a great time to have a family adventure. Join 7 and 10 year olds on our Costa Rica Multi-Sport Adventure; or surfers and horseback riders in Baja. Explore jungle and beaches in Panama,; trek in Peru,; or grab a whole departure to Belize for a private trip of your own.

Mundo Maya

According to the Maya's, on December 21, 2012 a cycle of creation (the thirteenth Bak’Tun spanning 5,125 years) will be completed, bringing the dawn of a new era. Lucky for everyone, it has been clearly decided this is not the end of the world. Belize is the epicenter of the Mayan world, full of its culture, history, and striking ruins, Also home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, Belize has some of the most magnificent snorkeling you’ll ever experience. The events and excitement leading up to and following December 21 have been in the works for decades. Come join in!

Our RIDDLE - and another Super-Smart Genius Award

Let’s say you have a glass of lemonade and a glass of iced tea, both nicely chilled and ready to drink. First pour 4 ounces of iced tea into the lemonade and stir it up. Then pour 4 ounces from the lemonade glass back into the iced tea. Is there more iced tea in the lemonade glass or more lemonade in the iced tea glass?

We'll be drawing a name from a TFA hat in five days. If we draw YOUR name and you've answered correctly, you'll win a Super-Smart Genius Award worth $200 off your next Thomson Family Adventure. Please solve this with your brain power, though you are allowed to consult your very clever children. Cheating is not allowed (and I'll know if you do!).
